GLORIFY HISTORY OF BIKANER

The history of Bikaner takes us to the era of 1488 when it was established by Rajput Prince Rao Bika Ji. It was only the courage and passion of Bika Ji which make him able to turn this barren land into a stunning and impressive city. And because of Bika Ji, it got the name of Bikaner. Earlier, it was known as Jungladesh.

MAJOR TOURIST ATTRACTION IN CITY

• Junagarh Fort  – Bikaner visit cannot be imagined without seeing Junagarh Fort. This incredible fort was built in 1588 to 1593 by Raja Raj Singh. It fetches a number of visitors due to have a massive structure and stunning architectural designs. There are two entry gate and a wide array of Mahal including Badal Mahal, Dungar Mahal, Ganga Mahal, Chandra Mahal, Anup Mahal etc. You will find here a Har Mandir which was used by the royal family in order to worship their God. It’s located on the North West by the Aravalli range.

• Lalgarh Palace – Due to have red sandstone, this palace is widely known as Lalgarh Palace. It’s the right place to visit if you wish to taste the royal lifestyle. It was built in 1902 and designed by one of the prominent architects namely Sir Swinton Jacob. He was known for his incredible craftsmanship and that’s why here you can find an incredible fusion of Rajput, Mughal and European style of architecture. This luxurious fort is well equipped with standard rooms and mini Bar.

• Karni Mata Temple – It’s almost 600 years old and gives a lovely treat who have a great inclination towards spirituality. Karni Mata Temple is widely known for rat worship. It may sound a little bizarre but it’s true. This temple is accommodation of thousands of grey, black and white rates. This place was used by Goddess Durga during 14 century. And feeding rats help to bring good fortune into the life of devotees. This temple is made from stone and marble.

• Gajner Palace – There was a time when it was the royal residence of Maharaja Sir Ganga Singh. This royal place has been divided into Mandir Chowk, Gulab Niwas, Champa Niwas and Dungar Niwas. Now, it has been turned into a heritage hotel.

• Camel Breeding Farm – It’s one of the largest camel breeding farms of Asia and was founded in 1984. This farm is engaged in breeding and training of camels and playing an enormous role to train the camel.
• Laxmi Nath Temple – It’s one of the oldest temple and rule over a number of hearts because of its beautiful artwork. It has a statue of Lord Vishnu and Laxmi.
• Sadul Singh Museum – This Museum has a great collection of belongings used by Maharaja such toothbrush, camera and passport. The first floor of this hotel has been turned into museum while the rest has been taken up by renowned hotel.

• Bikaner covers wide areas of the desert and Camel is considered as a ship of the desert. Without enjoying camel riding, your journey will not be considered complete.
• If you are passionate about shopping of clothing, jewellery and home furnishing then Bikaner will cater your all need since it’s a shopper’s paradise. The local market of Bikaner is always being flooded with heavy crowds to buy Carpet, Lacquer Bangles, Beaded, Embroidered Gorbandhs, Bikaneri Mojari, Kundan Work and so on.
• Don’t forget to taste local sweet like Sweetmeats, Bikaneri Bhujia etc. Apart from it, you must try camel mare’s milk products like tea and sweets. And Bhujia, Ghewar, Mirchi Bada and Dal Bati Choorma will let you go until you taste it.

FESTIVALS AND FAIRS

• Kapil Muni Fair in also listed in the event of Bikaner. This fair is associated to the worship of Saint Kapil Muni. This fair is held in the month of Kartik as per Hindi calendar and many people come all across the world to take a holy dip in kolayat lake. Cattle Fair is organised this time.

• Camel festival comes in one of the most famous festivals of Bikaner. This 2 days festival belongs to the ship of desert and organized in the month of January. In this festival, decorated camels perform spell bounding perform to take away the breath of the audience. And this celebration is jazzed up with the outstanding performance Folk Singers and Dancers. Apart from it, firework adds a great value to this festival.

• The Jambheswar Fair is celebrated in the memory of Bishnoi sect Jambheswar ji, who it the founder of Bikaner. Every year, this fair is organised twice in year in the village Mukam of Tehsil Nokha, Bikaner District. You can be a part of this fair between February-March and October-November.

BEST TIME TO VISIT

Though this enthralling city can be accessed anytime but the best time to visit this city starts from October to March since the weather remains quite pleasant. This time is very cool to explore the city and enjoying sightseeing. Avoid visiting in summer as the temperature goes up to 42 degree Celsius and it’s unbearable. Monsoon is also not ideal for visiting.

Public transport services is available to reach Jodhpur Airport by road. Jodhpur is well-connected to Delhi, Jaipur and major cities of Bikaner. Nal Airport situated 13Kms from Bikaner but now it’s under construction and will take some time to serve its facilities.
• By Train – Bikaner Junction and Lalgarh Railway Station are two railway station of Bikaner and well connected to major cities including Delhi, Kolkata, Allahabad Jaipur, and Jodhpur and so on. Regular train service is available.
• By Road – Public Transport is good and Bikaner is well connected to many places in order to make your road trip quite comfortable.
